Laser Hair Removal in Medellín

Laser hair removal uses pulses of light to remove hair from the root. Through selective photothermolysis, the laser acts on the melanin in the hair, turning light into heat and weakening the follicle without affecting the surrounding skin.

At Be Dharma the equipment is a triple-wavelength laser that combines Diode, Alexandrite and Nd:YAG in one device. Having three wavelengths matters: it is what allows the right one to be chosen for your skin tone and hair type, including darker skin, where using the wrong wavelength is what causes burns and pigmentation.

Benefits of laser hair removal

Because the equipment combines three wavelengths, the parameters can be matched to your skin tone and to the thickness and colour of your hair. That assessment is done before the first session: skin tone determines which wavelength is safe, and it is not the same for everyone.

Combining technologies allows deeper and more selective action on the follicle, which generally means results in fewer sessions than with older single-wavelength equipment. How many you need still depends on your hair and skin.

The equipment includes a constant cooling system that protects the skin and reduces discomfort, which makes the treatment more tolerable even on sensitive areas.

Beyond removing hair, the laser also acts on the skin itself, and patients often notice better texture in the treated area — particularly where shaving or waxing had been causing irritation or ingrown hairs.

Areas treated

  • Face
  • Underarms and arms
  • Legs and thighs
  • Intimate area (bikini, linea alba and perianal)
  • Back, chest and abdomen

Unlike waxing or shaving, laser hair removal acts on the follicle rather than on the hair that is already visible, which is what makes the result last and what avoids the ingrown hairs and irritation those methods tend to cause.

Laser hair removal at Be Dharma, Medellín

At Be Dharma, laser hair removal is carried out with a triple-wavelength laser and after assessing your skin tone and hair type, which is what determines the settings used. Sessions are quick and the areas treated are agreed beforehand.

What you can expect is explained before the first session: how many sessions your case is likely to need, what the laser can do with your hair type, and what it cannot — fine, light or grey hair responds less, because the laser acts on melanin.

Frequently asked questions about laser hair removal

It depends on your skin type, the colour and thickness of the hair and the area treated. On average 6 to 8 sessions are recommended, about 4 weeks apart. Some patients need additional sessions to reach the reduction they want.

Most patients describe it as a brief sting or a sensation of heat on the skin. Modern equipment includes cooling systems that reduce the discomfort, and most people find it more tolerable than waxing.

After completing the treatment, hair reduction is long-lasting in most cases. Maintenance sessions once or twice a year are usually needed, because hormonal changes can activate follicles that were dormant.

  • Avoid sun exposure and artificial tanning for at least two weeks before the session.
  • Do not wax or pluck: the follicle has to be intact for the laser to act on it.
  • Shave the area the day before.
  • Come with clean skin, without creams, makeup or deodorant.
  • Apply aloe vera gel or cold compresses to soothe the skin.
  • Use sunscreen on areas exposed to the sun.
  • Avoid swimming pools, saunas and hot showers for the first 24 hours.
  • Do not exfoliate or rub the treated skin for the first few days.

It can be, and that is precisely why the equipment combines several wavelengths: the Nd:YAG is the one used on darker skin tones. 🔴 What makes it safe is matching the wavelength and the settings to your skin, which is assessed before the first session — not the device alone.
